The Sweet & Sour Dilemma

I invited two couples to dinner at Casa Reiner. Some people may assume they will eat dessert as their entrée, or that we float in a sugar cloud, or that sugar cubes lay within reach of your fingertips here. Not so. We actually do eat regular food. However, I was planning on making a key lime pie for dessert. When I relayed the idea to one of the guests, she had a suppressed sigh of disappointment. Uh oh, she loves chocolate! What to do? Of course the most satisfactory solution would be to make two desserts. That wasn’t on the original agenda but the Sugar Mommas aim to please, especially in the sugar department.
The Sweet vs. Sour dilemma is ginormous. I think you are born one way or the other. I’ve never seen a “convert.” There are those that swing both ways, but usually a preference emerges.
This yin-yang is a perfect portrait of the Sugar Mommas. Momma Jenna is a chocolate lover. She would turn her nose up (or at least crinkle it) at a key lime pie. I am not sure she’d even waste her taste buds. I, on the other hand, attract to anything tangy like a bee. I reserve my chocolate intake for PMS. I keep a stash in an emergency kit, like an EpiPen ready to be applied in the event of any sudden mood swings.

I guess this polar opposite attraction is what makes our sugar world go round. Every person brings their taste buds to the table and that’s what makes a gathering fun. Remember, what you do in the kitchen has value. So, make the extra cake and enjoy your party!
